Freedom Within

Introduction

I walked into the main entrance of Glen Este High School here in Cincinnati, Ohio.  I didn't like anything about this place, the schools, the towns, the people.  I would never have stepped foot in a town like this if it wasn't for my Mom.  As far as family goes, she's all I have.  Her and my Aunt.  When my Aunt moved here, my mom wanted to as well.  She wanted to be with her sister, not that I could blame her.  She could get a better job here and be with her sister, who wouldn't move?  I saw how happy this opportunity made my mom, and being her only child, how I could I break her heart and tell her I didn't want to move here?  I couldn't, so the only thing I could do was tell her I was happy for her and I just wanted to be where she was.  So in my mind, I told myself to give this place some time.  Growing up in Missouri was easy for me.  I was fairly popular, had a good group of friends and loved my town.  I missed it already.

This school didn't have anything really special about it, some parts seemed run down, other parts looked newer.  The brick walls and waxed floors didn't impress me.  I walked into an open area that had several groups of other students huddled around chatting.  A few eye's glanced over at me, right away everyone could tell I was the new kid.

“Hey no one told me we were getting a new fag,”  I heard someone call out.  I turned around to face a boy about my age leaning on a brick wall surrounded by his friends.  He looked like a personified jock to me.  Spiky blonde hair, slim but built, seemed like a football airhead to me.  He locked eyes with me and his other friends just stared.

“I know your not talking about me,” I said confidently.  I wasn't going to push around by this guy.

“Yeah,” He answered with a cocky tone.  “I am, what are you going to do about it?”

“I know what your Gonne do,”  I answered back in the same tone.  “Apologize,” I commanded.

He gave me one of those 'you've got to be kidding me' looks.  I wasn't joking, I wanted an apology and I wanted it now.  What did this asshole know about me?  Nothing.

“You know, I don't think I will,” He said with an attitude and shoved my shoulder.

That was the only chance I gave him.  I flung my fist right into the side of his pretty boy jaw.  I Heard people around us gasping or shouting.  I didn't really care what any of them had to say, this guy got what was coming to him.  He landed on the ground with a thud and stayed there.

“Maybe next time you'll keep your mouth shut,” I looked down at him and walked away.

Just as I turned away from the guy, I saw a teacher walking straight for me.  I kept my eyes low and just keep walking.

“Young man....” I heard the teacher speak up.  Next thing I knew, I was sitting in the principles office.  I was called in and they asked me why I did what I did.  I told them, they didn't think my reason was justified.  The jock got off the hook, and I ended up with a bad reputation by lunch.

I've had a problem with any kind of authoritative figure since then.  Can you blame me?

That was nearly two years ago, now I have a chance to start fresh here at Live oaks vocational school.  If I have to be in high school for the next two year, it might as well be doing something I like.  The Interactive Media program here looks like something I could really get into.  This was a new start, and I was damn well ready for it.

Well, it is the first day of school again.  So here we go, I walked in the door of my new school it look very nice. Even though there is some work being done in the library.  My Interactive Media class stars at eight o’clock. Because I’m early, I don’t know what to do for my first ten minutes. I saw there were students in the class so I decided to go in as well. I just sat down, and the teacher came up to me and said,

“Hi my name is Mr.Sanchez, but you can call me Mr.S.”

“Hi my name is Hayden,” I told him as he shook my hand.

The bell rang and all of the other students came into class. The teacher started the normal first day lectures.  I only half listened to what he was saying, I was trying to glance around the room to get a feel for my classmates.  There are certianly a good mix of people in this class, it seems to have everything.  Nerds, preps, stoners, Goths and everything in between.

“Now everyone will have assigned seats,” He started.  Most the class groaned over the idea.  He started calling out names and pointing to seats, mine was called and I took a seat in the second row.  Once everyone was seated, he finished going over the basic rules and regulations of the classroom.  The almost three hour class flew by and before I knew it the lunch bell had rung.
